ABRAHAM! (Part #4) 5-26-2013

“By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice.  He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” (Heb.11:17-18 NIV)

Abraham had trusted God when he was called to leave his home, his relatives and go to a land that God would show him.  He continued to trust God as he waited many years for the promised heir whom God would use to bring blessing to all the nations of the earth.

Now God is asking Abraham to offering this very one as a sacrifice through whom God was to fulfill all the promises given to Abraham.  It seemed so contrary to reason.  Would Abraham trust God and obey him?  He did obey to the point of raising the knife to sacrifice his son; when God stopped him. (Gen.22:10-12)  The Bible tells us that Abraham was sure that God could even raise Isaac from the dead to fulfil his promise.

The way of faith in full of challenges and obstacles.  Things may happen that seem contrary to the thing that we know God desires to do. Many could not and would not believe that the Messiah would die on a cross; for he is called to authority, to rule and reign over God’s eternal kingdom. But he did die, according to God’s plan, to bring a greater blessing to the earth; the salvation of man, especially to those who believe!

Let’s not be offended and stumble at the ways of God.  We are called to humble ourselves, following him, obeying him.  Can God be trusted fully?  His work, shown us through the Bible, says yes.  Abraham walked this way. Jesus walked this way. Let us do the same!
