“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.” (Heb.11: NIV)

By faith, Abel was commended by God for his offering. (fat portions from his flock) He offered the best he had to God. Cain, was unaccepted, because he offered some of the fruit of the land. In his day, Abel was sure and certain in his knowledge of God, and acted accordingly.(Gen 4:1-5)

In his day Enoch believed God existed and he rewarded those who sought him.  The Bible tells us that he walked with God! (Gen 5:21-24) Why did he walk with God when others did not?  Because he was sure and certain about what he knew of God, and therefore sought and found God real. He had a steady fellowship with the Almighty. We can do the same in our day!.

It seems so easy to fall into a historical faith, believing the truth and actions of those in the past, but lacking a present, active trust.  Yet the Bible encourages us continually to pursue a God that is real today and can be found.  We can offer our best to him  and we can personally walk with God.

Jesus died and rose again to show us that God loves us.  Trusting Christ, we are free from the guilt and power of our sins, so we can fellowship and walk with God.  We can offer to him our best, and we can be led by him into a continual relationship.  It is very real. We can personally know him  We can know his will for our lives and prepare ourselves for eternity with him.

Historical faith can be very empty, passive, and unimportant. Personal, present and active faith in a real and living God, brings us to a reality and purpose with one who loves us and is faithful to us.
