“But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. O my strength, I will sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.” (Ps.59:16-17 NIV)

David, the author of this Psalm, is appealing to God for help. Many are coming against him for no cause. They are wanting to hurt and destroy him. He is surrounded by these evil doers.  Many places you see David in similar circumstances  Everything seem to be going wrong.  In one of these impossible situations, “David encouraged himself (strengthened himself) in the Lord.” (1 Sam.30:6)

This is what he is doing in the Ps. 59 situation.  He encourages and strengthens himself in the Lord.  He turns his eyes from the problems and begins to sing of God’s strength and might, singing of his power.  He starts the morning in singing of God’s love, especially his love for David himself.  Because he sees God in this way, God becomes his fortress.

David’s faith is active. In times of difficulty, he does something and so can you and I.

Is. 40:25-31 shows the eternal greatness of God and his power. He is infinite in power and knows all about our needs. Ps100 tells all people to praise and give thanks to God, because his love and faithfulness endures forever; to every generation, that includes ours.

We are to do this, not because we feel good, but because this is the truth.  God is just like we are told in the scriptures. He can be trusted and praised. He is a helper in times of need.  Let’s be active in our faith. Let’s start our days by trusting God in offering our praise to him!  He is trustworthy!
