“You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you. (Gal 4:10-11 NIV)  It is so easy to be overwhelmed with tradition and miss the real life and purpose God has planned for us.

Church attendance, keeping certain religious festivals during the year, going through church rituals can deceive us in thinking that these are a true measure of our commitment and devotion to God.  These are not bad in themselves, but without care, we may miss the reality of what God had planned.  This was happening to the churches of Galatia.

You are all sons of God  through faith in Christ Jesus...Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son (Jesus) into our hearts.” (Gal.3:26,4:6)  We are sons of God in reality. It is not because of religious rules that we do, but by faith in Christ. It is a new relationship with God, given to us freely when we put our trust in Christ.

“The life that I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.(Gal.2:20 NIV)  God has freely given us something that we could never earn; his forgiveness and his life. Now you and I can adventure with God day by day, for the rest of our lives; letting God lead us as a loving Father, into his best.. We grow in knowledge of God and his reality.

Most religions offer us a life of works, rituals and festivals that cannot please God. They only have a outward show of something real.  God wants us to trust and follow him into the life that is true reality with him. It counts for eternity, and brings a genuine satisfaction to our lives.
