“After removing Saul, he (God) made David their king.  He (God) testified concerning him: I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” ((Acts 13:22 NIV)

It seems that God is searching for those  who had a heart like David.  It is not that you find them easily.  Men who will do part of God’s will are “a dime a dozen.”  They will do the part that pleases them or that is easy to do. (1 Sam.13:14)  To find the whole hearted, committed one is a challenge.  “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to him.” (2 Chr.16:9 NKJV)  Again you see the search of God for the heart that trusts him wholly.

“The old hymn says, “Back to the cold world I will not go. Back to the old life of pain and of woe. Back to old life of sin, O No; for I’ve had a glimpse of Jesus.”  One of the great qualities of a whole hearted follower of Jesus is that he has a wonderful view of the Lord.  Relationship is everything and has been formed with God.  A great appreciation for God has been found. David received that foundation in life as he was out tending sheep, seeing God work and getting to know him.

“Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.”(Ja.4:8)  Don’t neglect regular “quiet times” of Bible reading, prayer and singing to God. Through Christ, we have access to him.  It is okay to talk with God!  In this way, we begin a relationship with God; getting to know him. This can create in us a heart like David that truly wants to please him first.
