A NEW COVENANT! 10-15-2017

“The New Covenant: ”I will put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts.  I will be their God and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying Know the Lord, because they will all know me from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”  (Heb.8:10-12 NIV)

Why a new covenant?  Because the people failed to keep and obey the first covenant and God had to turn away from them and bring judgement on them. It did not produce a people that obeyed and followed God and his ways.(Heb.8:9)

Jesus tells his disciples at the last supper that the cup they drank represented the blood of the New Covenant, his own blood that was shed for them, and for us all. (Lu.22:20)

The first covenant filled many pages with all kinds of commandments. The New  Covenant is covered in three verses.(see above.)  One thing that stands out; there is no commandments for us to keep. The first covenant failed because of the inability of the people to fully obey. God has promised to accomplish what we could not do.  God says: 1) I will forgive their sins and remember them no more. (Jesus paid the price!)  2. I will put my laws in their minds and write them in their hearts. He will do something within us. A new life from God is given freely to us. God puts a desire within us to obey his word. Amazing!  3. Everyone will know God. A personal relationship with the Lord. It is a great and perfect work of God.

What do I do?  Turn to him and ask him to do it in me. “By grace you are saved thru faith, not of works.” Put your trust in Jesus, He will not fail!
