Notice the Bible terminology: “God...taking from the Gentiles a people for himself.” (Acts 15:14 NIV)  “Jesous Christ, who gave himself for us...to purify for himself a people that are his very own.” (Tit.2:14 NNIV)  “But you are a chosen people...a people belonging to God.”(1 Pet.2:9 NIV)   Real Christianity is primarily a relationship with God; initiated by him.  Humans emphasize rules and regulations so they can be accepted by God. We can try our best, but it is never enough.  However, God, through his Son, Jesus, has opened a path for fellowship with himself. It begins here and now. It is offered to all men freely.  That is the good news.

The apostle writes of a fuller relationship. “I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.”  The relationship continues in a greater way when we die, and is even more complete.  It is “better by far.”

The capstone is found in 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18.  The apostle is speaking of the bodily resurrection of those who have a true relationship with Christ “Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words.” This relationship continues and grows, through eternity, with Christ. Wow!

This is our calling and it begins now. “God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.” (1 Co.1:9 NIV)  Why does God tell us all of this?  It is to encourage us to develop and persevere in this new relationship.  It is the most important thing in our lives.  Don’t minimize it, Give yourself to it so God’s will may be fully done in your life. Fellowshipping and walking with God; What a wonderful calling!
