“For this world in its present form is passing away.” (1Co.7:31 NIV)  “The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” (1Jn.2:17 NIV)  “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away...” (Rev.21:1 NIV)

What do we see here?  The truth of our present world system; it is moving toward a final end, and its desires and promises will pass away.  What seems so real and worthwhile will come to nothing.  On the other hand, the Bible speaks of something new coming; something lasting, never to pass away.

Many people mentioned in the Bible heard God’s promises and saw them. “...and welcomed them from a distance.  And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on the the earth...they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one.” (Heb.11:13,16 NIV)

What makes this new place so much better?  It will continue forever; there will be no end but will move on and on in the eternal purposes of God.  Those who live there will also live forever, moving on through ages to come in God’s plans. (Eph.2:7)  It will be a place where everything is made right, no kind of evil will exist.  It will be far better than all we have known.

No wonder Jesus challenges us; “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.”(Mt. 6:19-20 NIV)  The treasures are sure and lasting there.  This is what God promises and he cannot lie.  Take a look at the scriptures!  See for yourselves, and go for the better and lasting!
