BE COURAGEOUS! 9-20-2015

In Joshua Chapter 1, God is challenging Joshua in ways never experienced by him before. He was called to leadership of Israel after the death of Moses, the great deliverer. How weak, unable and fearful he must have felt.  It was a challenge. I am sure, that it seemed to him; unattainable.

God says to him three times; “be strong and courageous.” He tells him why.

  1. You will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them.

  2. I have given to you my written word; meditate in it and stay in its boundaries.

  3. The Lord is with you wherever you go. (v6-9)

Three important things: His purpose or call to service; His way to live his life; and the promise of God being with him all the way.

In the same way, God has called us to purpose in this life. No matter who you are, as a believer in Christ, God was given you an important purpose, even before the beginning of time, to be accomplished at this very time.(Eph.2:10)  What a challenge; to be able to do something worthwhile and lasting. What a privilege from God!  However, there are obstacles; that is why we are challenged: “be strong, very courageous.” Do don’t live in fear or discouragement.

Feed and be strengthened by the scriptures.  God gives us his guidelines to keep us moving in boundries of service. We must serve the Lord under his general instructions of his word.

What an important and encouraging truth. God is always with us, in reality, as guide, comforter, and strength.  He is there with us so we can fulfill the purpose of God in our lives. His strength is made perfect in our weakness. therefore all things are possible. Courage is to move on in spite of fear, because God has challenged us, and he is faithful.  Be encouraged in God!
