I remember my first months in Japan after I had chosen to trust and follow Christ.  There was much discouragement as I considered my weaknesses, but there was also times of great reality in this new way.

I had been in an argument with another Sgt.  I had said things that were wrong to say.  Soon after my decision to follow Christ, I was convicted within that I needed to go to this Sgt. and apologize to him. He had said some rough things as well, but that was not the issue. The Lord was challenging me to get my heart clear in asking this man to forgive me for my wrong.  When I responded and obeyed, there came a great peace. I was free from the guilt.

I would get very discouraged at times as I read the Bible and saw how I should live as a Christian.  I was having personal temptations within and I felt I should not be like that as a true Christian.  I remember so clearly, as I sat on my bunk very discouraged, I heard a clear voice within say; But you have Jesus!. It ministered such peace to me. There was no condoning of wrong, but a pointing my life to the one who had become my helper in spite of my weaknesses and battles.

Jesus said, in the midst of a major festival of religious people; “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams of living water would flow from within him. By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.(Jn.7:37-39 NIV)  Jesus is the good shepherd and leads us to a new life and walk with God!
