The pronoun used in speaking about the Holy Spirit is not “it”, but “he”. (Jn.14:16) He  comes to abide with us forever. We are encouraged not to grieve the Holy Spirit, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption; not to put out the Spirit’s fire, but to be filled with the Spirit. ( Eph.4:30, 1 Thess.5:19, Eph.5:18 NIV)

He has come to remind us of things God has already spoken to us. (Jn.14)  He will guide us into all truth and show us things to come.  The Spirit will take the things of Christ and make them real to us.(Jn.16)  We receive power (God’s ability) after the Holy Spirit comes, and we then can be a witness to others of the reality of Christ. (Acts 1:8)  As we read through the book of Acts in the Bible we see the working of the Holy Spirit so real after Jesus’ goes to heaven, and the church is active in doing the work of God.  Things have not changed today; we need his guidance, encouragement and power even more.

“Be filled with the Spirit.” Better translated; “be you being filled with the Spirit.” Stay full of God’s Spirit!  “Sing to one another in Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord.  Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything! (Eph.5:18-20)  He wants us to trust and fellowship with him every day.

“For we are the temple of the living God.  As God has said, “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, they will be my people.” (2 Co.6:16 NIV)Let us give ourselves to it. Through Jesus Christ all can come and live this way.
