BRINGING US TO GOD! 9-11-2011

“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” (1 Pet.3:18 NIV)

Peter simplifies things.  Sometimes a simple, clear word picture can be very helpful.  The purpose of Christ’s work is to bring us to God.  First, he had to remove the great obstacle that was separating us; our sin.  We have all sinned, and we were so blind and trapped that we saw no need even to reach out to God.  “No man seeks God; no not one.”  So the righteous one died and paid the penalty for us, the unrighteous.  He moved the obstacle out to the way. Amazing!

As this good news goes out by preaching and witnessing, the Spirit of God touches us and shows our need, and God’s solution. He opens our spiritual eyes and we see Christ and his eternal salvation.  Remember his purpose is to bring us to God.  The apostle John helps us. “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.” (1 Jn.1:3 NIV)  Not only has God moved the obstacle; sin, but he is telling us that we can have fellowship with God.  By his Holy Spirit and the Bible, we can grow in the knowledge of God. We can get to know him better, experience his life and do things with him that will better others.  We are brought to God to have a personal, close relationship with him.  Christ died to bring you to God!

But it does not stop there.  The apostle Paul gives us wonderful incite.  He tells us the Lord Jesus, one day, will descend from heaven with a shout, the voice of an archangel and God’s trumpet call. Wow!  The true believers who have died, will rise from the grave, and those believers who are alive at the time, will be caught up together and meet the Lord Jesus in the air.
So we will be with the Lord forever! (1Th.4:16-18) Bringing us back to God will be complete. No matter what happens in the meantime; be encouraged.  God is faithful!
