COME AND SEE! 9-18-2016

“Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’  Nazareth!  ‘Can anything good come from there?’ Nathanael asked.  ‘Come and see,’ said Philip.”  (Jn.1:45-46 NIV)

These men became two of the original twelve that Jesus called to be Apostles. They were in the forefront of the Good News of salvation going out to the known world of that time.  However, things did not start that way.  We can learn from these men.

Philip had already been around Jesus and heard him speaking. He met his friend Nathanael and declared we have found the Messiah. That was quite a statement. Nathanael was sceptical because of Jesus’ hometown. Nothing good could come from there, he thought.  It is so easy, and we all have done it; making decisions without getting all the facts. We hear talk about subjects, even important subjects, and draw important (sometimes wrong) conclusions that affect our lives.

The word Philip spoke was very important. “Come and see for yourself.”  Don’t make important decisions without honestly “Checking it out.”  As Philip came to Jesus, heard him and experienced the reality of who he is; he exclaimed, “You are the Son of God!”  (Jn.1:47-51) This changed his life forever!

I want to strongly encourage you to do the same with Jesus.  You can search and find facts about him, but also you can come to him personally and open your heart to him. Ask him to make himself real to you.  You see Jesus is alive; after dieing for our sins, he was raised from the dead and is real today.  Search the matter  diligently; eternity is at stake.  You will find out the truth and be like Nathanael of old. He became a believer and disciple of Christ.
