There is a saying that I heard a number of years ago: “It is easier to gain than to maintain.”  I believe this is very true.  To start something is easier than to keep it going. However, it can be done!

“...continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” (Phil.2:12-13 NIV) The apostle is telling us that something good has happened. When we turn to and trust in Christ, God forgives our many sins and gives us a new life within: we are born of God.  This begins our life with God.  Now we are called to continue to work out God’s life and plan in and through us. This is an ongoing work until we leave this life. With all the distractions about us, it is a real challenge!  What is wonderful about this, God himself will work in and through us, and it counts for eternity!

“...But as for you, continue in what you learned and have become convinced of, because you know from whom you learned it. and how...you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (2 Tim.3:14-15 NIV) There are those today who tell us that the Bible is “out of fashion.” We don’t need it. We have new ideas. I want to encourage you to stay with the scriptures. You have been taught from the Bible and you are in good company. Wonderful things have been done by those who lived by the Word of God.  This path promises eternal fruit.    .

Perseverance is taught all through the Bible. We are told that “at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”(Gal.6:9 NIV)  Continue in God’s way!!
