CONTRASTED LIVES! (part #2) 6-26-2011

The true way of faith; what a challenge!  It is contrary to the ways of man.  We all know that the word faith is used in a very general way.  “Just have faith, everything will turn out alright.”  The emphasis of the Old Covenant given to Israel was not built on faith, but human ability. (man’s works)  A right stand before God could be obtained by doing all the commandments and ordinances that God had given.

The New Covenant, mentioned and emphasized in the writings of the apostles, is a covenant built on the power and faithfulness of God.  The challenge is faith in God who makes promises.
Our faith is to be centered in God and his Son, rather than our strength.  That which cannot be done by man, can be done by God, and he has promised to do it. God says,”I will forgive your sins and remember them against you no more; I will put my law into your minds and write them in your hearts.” (Heb.8:10-12)  This does away with boasting, because it is God’s work.  The Gospel is a work of faith(trust) from first to last. (Ro.1:17)

What is faith?  It is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Heb.11:1)  As you hear the truth of the gospel and promises God has made, it becomes real to your mind and heart.  Then you act on it.  You trust God by giving yourself into his hands for him to work the very things you cannot do.  In Faith you humble yourself before God, and learn to follow him as he leads your life.  Can You and I trust him?  Yes, completely; because he was willing to give his Son to die for us to bring us into this relationship with him.  He forgives our sins and gives us his Spirit to work in us his will.

The apostle tells us, “The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.” (1Th.5:24 NIV)  Come to Christ; put your trust in him and continue to trust.  He will not fail.
