“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought the field.” (Mt.13:44 NIV) Certainly this parable speaks of Christ finding the treasure in saving, having a people for himself, and joyfully giving all he had, even his very life, to purchase the field and treasure. It is also a challenge to us, as we find Christ (the treasure) and the calling to follow him. We need to consider the value of this heavenly treasure and respond accordingly. What is the value of this that God is offering to all, and especially to those who believe? This is an eternal relationship and our response counts for eternity. This person in the parable, finding the treasure, thought it so valuable that he JOYFULLY sold all he had to get this treasure. How valuable is Christ to you? Years ago, as a church going christian, God spoke to my heart; “Make yourself available.” I was being challenged to get more definite in my commitment to him. Working at a 6 day a week job, I began get up earlier each morning to seek the Lord in prayer and in the scriptures. This was the beginning of deeper relationship with Christ and a ministry expansion that I had not expected. I encourage you to be definite about a real relationship with the living Christ. Be definite in seeking him. Jesus said, “seek and you shall find.” He, the good shepherd, will make himself more real, and lead your life in his way and purpose that will have eternal fruit. I am not talking of a “Big ministry.” as the little chorus says, “Little is much if God is in it.” Developing a relationship with God starts by seeing its value and being definite in following him. |
