In Joshua 1:1-9 God speaks to Joshua.  He shares some things with him that can help us all in our lifetime. At least three times God challenges Joshua to be strong and courageous. Strength and courage is not the absence of the sense of weakness or discouragement, but the ability to rise above the challenges that we face and move ahead to fulfill something worthwhile with our lives.

I see here three fundamental truths that help us in moving on through faith in God.  God tells Joshua, “Be  strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land…” .  This was God’s main purpose or plan for Joshua’s life.  The Bible makes it clear that God has a plan for your life and mine. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Eph.2:10 NIV) Just as God called this man thousands of years ago, so he calls us now.  We don’t call ourselves.  We don’t plan our own path and purpose.  God does this to bring his will to pass and give us eternal fruitfulness.

If we realize this basic truth of God, it will bring stability and inward strength to stand fast or move ahead when things look difficult, even impossible.  As a Christian, we can be absolutely sure that God can and will fulfill his purpose in and through us, no matter how weak we feel an times.  God has chosen us! “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last.”(Jn.15:16 NIV)  Jesus spoke these words to his first disciples and the same truth is ours 2000 years later.  Do not be afraid or discouraged! God has called you so keep trusting and following him  It will be accomplished!
