“Have I not commanded?  Be strong and courageous.  do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Josh.1:9 NIV)

This is the last basic truth given by God to Joshua to help him move on with God and his purpose.  Again, it is also for us.

What can dilute our fear and strengthen our courage to move ahead or stand fast for the Lord?  God is with us wherever we go!  As Jesus gave his church the great commission to go make disciples of all nations; he finished by saying “...surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”(Mt.28:18-20 NIV)  “then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by signs that accompanied it.” (Mk.16:20 NIV)

There is a story about a young boy walking with his father through a forest.  It was evening and getting dark.  As the darkness deepened, the young lad walked closer and closer to his father.  Finally, the boy said to his dad. “Dad, we’re not scared, are we?  When we are convinced that the Lord is with us and will never leave us, it truly dampens our fears and strengthens our courage. The Holy Spirit is given to every true believer. (Jn.4:10,14)  Out of our inner being flows streams of living water.(Jn.7:38)  I remember so well, soon after becoming a Christian; I would be very discouraged because of my failures, and I would hear the Lord say, “BUT YOU HAVE JESUS;” followed by such comfort!

Jesus is called Emmanuel, meaning “God with us.”  He supplies all that is needed for us to finish God’s purpose for our lives.
