DON'T QUIT! 5-24-2015

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Gal.6:9-10 NIV)

As believers in Christ, we have been given the Spirit of love; we are born of God.  God is love! (2 Tim.1:7, 1 Jn.4:16)   We are encouraged to “...live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself for us.” (Eph.5:2 NIV)  We are disciples of Christ, so let’s follow him.

Giving and doing good!  People do not have to deserve our actions of love.  We can give it freely as Christ set the example.  He did not come destroy men’s lives, but to save them. (Jn.3:17) All kinds of opportunities will present themselves to do good.  Take the challenge to do the better thing; give, help, encourage.  Don’t struggle about what others do, but do that which pleases the Lord.  Your example may be the very thing that will motivate another to do the same.  However, don’t do it for that purpose. Jesus told us to do our giving in secret; it is not to be done to show off!

The promise of Gal.6 is that we will reap a good harvest if we do not give up. If we are always looking for immediate fruit, we may become discouraged and quit.  Keep doing and living God’s way,  good fruit will eventually come.  Whether it is sooner or later is in the Lord’s hands. The promise is sure, and in the process we are becoming more and more like our Lord. We are talking of fruit for this life and the life to come!
