“Multitudes who sleep; in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.” (Dan.12:2 NIV)  “...he (God) has given him (Christ) authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.  Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming  when all who are in their graves will hear his (Christ) voice and come out--those who have done good to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.” (Jn.5:27-29 NIV)

There is the sense of finality in these and other verses. I know they make me stand in awe and tremble at the thought of such a time. “For he (God) has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed.  He has given proof of this to all men by raising him (Christ) from the dead.” (Acts 17:31 NIV)  This is one of the foundational teachings of the Christian faith. (Heb.6:1-2)

This one, who will be the final judge, is now the one who is the way to a right relationship with God. (Jn.14:6)  Jesus makes this wonderful, clear statement; “I tell you the truth, the time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.” (Jn.5:25 NIV)  Jesus clarifies this truth; “I tell you the truth whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” (Jn.5:24)

The Bible is clear that we are all spiritually dead in our sins, but as we hear his voice through the gospel (good news) and believe (embrace) his words, we pass over from death to life and we will not be condemned! Praise the Lord!!
