“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Prov.9:10 NIV)  “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. (Prov.1:7 NIV)  “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” (Prov.4:7 NIV)

To fear God is to stand in awe of him; to truly consider who he is and what he has to say.  The Bible calls anyone who disregards God’s instruction; a Fool! “The fool says in his heart, there is no God”(Ps.14:1 NIV) Yet, some with much learning make this statement.  “A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.”  ”Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and shun evil.” (Prov.18:2,3:7 NIV)  The Bible considers humility and honesty great qualities. The Lord says, “This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.” (Is.66:2b NIV)  “...having heard the word with a noble (honest) and good heart, keep it, and bear fruit with patience.” (Lu.8:15 NKJV)

The Bible tells us that God has appointed a day when all people will be judged.(Acts 17:31, Heb.9:27) That is an awesome statement!   We are also told that God has made a way to find forgiveness of  sins. (Ro. 3:10-24, 5:1)  God has worthwhile plans for our lives now and in eternity.(Eph. 2:4-10)  We all need to have true respect for the one who has spoken to us through the scriptures, and through his Son.
He watches over his word to accomplish it.  We don’t want to be a fool, but wise, and listen to him.
