FIRST OF ALL! 11-4-12

I urge, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” (1 Tim.2:1-2 NIV)

The apostle is writing this word to a younger minister “...that...you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God...” (1 TIm.3:14,15 NIV).  It seems clear this is the first thing to be done, the primary thing we should be doing; praying for leaders to become Christians, for God to help them in their leadership role. and to give thanks for the good things they do.

In this season in choosing leadership for our country, states and cities, we should be diligent to pray for God’s help for ourselves and for others that right choices will be made.  We look on the outward life and actions of those running for office; only God knows the heart and intent of all. God can help us in our weaknesses to move us in the right direction as we make choices..

In many ways we have relegated God to the sidelines as a nation, thinking we can handle things without his help, but even now as we humble ourselves, look to him and pray, the Lord can help us. And no matter what the outcome, let’s set our hearts to do as the apostle urges; continue praying and live our lives in a godly way that his will is accomplished through us. Let’s live for Christ so he is honored no matter what comes!
