FIRST TO THE LORD! (Part #2) 11-10-2013

“...they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will.” (2Co.8:5 NIV)

Paul, writer of most of the New Testament, is first revealed in the Bible as an enemy and persecutor of the Church of Christ; most unworthy. However, he exclaims; “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect.  No, I worked harder than all of them (other apostles)-yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.” (1Co.15:9-10 NIV)

God’s grace, his unmerited favor, is a wonderful thing! An old hymn says, “His love has no limit; his grace has no measure, his power has no boundaries known to men. For out of his infinite riches in Jesus, he gives and gives and gives again.”

Paul, least worthy yet labored harder in God’s service than many his peers. How did he do it?  He tells us that it was by the grace of God. As the scripture mentions above; “they gave themselves first to the Lord”, and as Paul did the same, God’s abundant favor was manifest in his life. He labored in that strength that came from the Lord.

That grace is still available today. We can take the same challenge Paul did.   Don’t look only at your past, your mistakes, your failures, your weaknesses, but look at the fact that God has touched your life and forgiven your sins. Now make yourself available. Humbly present your life to Christ. Stick with it!  Go for God’s best for your life. It is available to you and to all..
