“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me(Jesus). Therefore go and make disciples of all nations...teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Mt.28:18-20 NIV)

This is called the Great Commission given to his first disciples before Christ ascended to heaven. This is the great challenge to his church over the centuries, and is still in effect today..

After dying for the sins of all men and being raised from the dead by God; after he had opened the way of salvation;  after he had made a way for men to be free from the guilt and power of sin, Jesus was given all power and authority.  He rules from heaven and he tells his church to go and make disciples. Finally, he tells us that he will be with us in this commission; right to the end.

“The Disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.” (Acts 11:26)  A disciple indicates more than just believing a set of teachings, but one who is learning and following a new way of life.  They were not just hearing, but following the way of one who is alive forever and who is with them to help them walk this new way . They were learning and following!  These were called Christians.(Christ like, little Christs) They were learning to live like Jesus.

Your calling and mine is to be a disciple of Christ.  We are to continue learning and walking in the way of Jesus. “For we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose..,.to be conformed to the image of his Son.” (Ro.8:28-29) He is our helper and we can walk this new way!
