“For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham.” (Ps.105:42 NIV)

These are only a few words, but they speak volumes to us about the character of the God of the Bible.  As you read through Ps.105, there is a rehearsal of all that God did to fulfil a promise he made. “He remembers his covenant forever...the covenant he made with Abraham.” (v8-9)

God promises to give Abraham and his descendants a special land, and it was made when there but a few of them. (V12)  To fulfil his promise he sends Joseph, a great grandson, to Egypt to prepare the way for their stay there.  When persecuted and made slaves in that country, God sends Moses to to deliver them through many signs and miracles.  On their way through the desert, the Israelites were covered with a cloud by day and led by a pillar of fire by night. Food was miraculously supplied.  Water came out of a rock. They were 40 years in the wilderness, and God’s supply for them never failed. All these things happened “for he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham.”

When God makes a promise or covenant, he is faithful to bring it to fulfillment.  God has made great promises to forgive sins, to guide, to encourage, to make himself real, to give a new life that will last forever.  All of this and more are promised those who will put their trust in his Son, Jesus.  God has made him the source of a new promised land; an inheritance that will last forever.  Remember he is faithful to the promises he makes, just as he was faithful to Abraham. Men makes promises that they cannot or will not keep.  But there is one who remembers and fulfills his word.  We can trust him!
