These are words of an old Christian hymn: “There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins, and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.” This is one of the great themes of the Bible.  God’s great love for all has been expressed in sending his Son to die in our place, for our sins.  This act of love has made possible God’s forgiveness to be given to all who will come to Christ. “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.” (Ro.6:23)

The Jewish Prophet, Zechariah, spoke of this hundreds of years before Jesus came; “...a fountain will be opened for the dynasty of David and for the people of Jerusalem, a fountain to cleanse them for their sins and impurity.” (13:1 NLT)  Isaiah, the prophet speaks of how this place of cleansing came about; “...he (Jesus) was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us; like sheep, have strayed away.  We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. (53:5-6 NLT)

Amazing Love!  “When we were utterly helpless...God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Ro.5:6,8 NLT) “Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege...we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.”(Ro.5:2NLT )

Forgiveness of Sin!  A new life with God now!  The certainty of a glorious eternity with a loving God! What should be our response?  It would be good to read and meditate on Romans 12:1-2.
