“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Eph.2:10 NIV)

In spite of all of Israel's failures, God says; “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer.29:11 NIV)

In the midst of all the destruction, the prophet speaks; “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning;  Great is your faithfulness...The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” (Lam.3:22-24 NIV)

As followers of Christ, God laid out a plan long ago, for each of us, that would be brought about in God’s time and way. He works in and through us as we trust and follow him. Before Christ came to earth, we see examples of men and women, through the pages of the Bible. God makes himself real to them. As they walked with him, he brought his purposes to pass. He wants the same for us today.

His compassions never fail. They begin anew each morning. When you have a bad day, there is a fresh start the next. When you make a mistake, fail in some way; as you ask, God freely forgives and wants you to rise up and go on in faith. “The Lord is our portion!” We get him!  It is he who has taken the initiative to call us to himself.  He knows our weaknesses even before we came to him.  Yet, he called and we responded. Let’s keep trusting him, following him, obeying him. Let’s keep going!  He will finish his purpose in us. It will be so good and will count for now and eternity. This is what our life in this world is all about.
