The apostle writes; “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me,” and “But one thing I do; Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize to which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Phil.3:12,13-14 NIV)

It is clear in the Bible that God has a plan for those who trust in him. We have talked about God working in us, and about humility and obedience, but it is all with purpose; to accomplish something; to take hold of God’s purpose.  There is a eternal prize in doing so.  God’s calling is not just “adding a little Jesus” to our lives; just “putting a little religion” in our lives to make it well rounded.  Christ opened the door to the one true God and his eternal plan.  As we see this, it gives purpose for living, and not just living, but living right. Trusting, submitting and following the one God has chosen: Jesus Christ.

Most are flitting their lives away on trivial, temporary lifestyles.  Why not be different and go for the gold; the lasting things that God has for us.  As you read the scriptures, you get a view of those taking this challenge; especially you see it in Paul’s writings and lifestyle.

This calling is for all; no matter what your circumstances.  Young, Old, married, single, poor, rich; Paul encourages us all to run for the reality of God and his purpose.  Christ lives in every true believer to encourage and help him obtain God’s best. There is much in Philippians 2 and 3 that clarifies this challenge. Paul says, “...that is how you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends.”(Phil.4:1 NIV).
