“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” (Ps.40:1-3 (NIV)

This man who wrote this was in deep trouble.  He was mired down and could not get free in his own strength. God knows how to speak and move to bring a release in our lives.   The key to his victory is that, after he turned to God for help, he did not give up. He stayed with God as his helper even though the help did not come immediately.  He kept reaching to God.  He would not let go.

His answer came in a greater and more complete way than he expected.  The Lord not only lifted him from the quagmire; the bondage he was in.  God also settled his life in a solid way that would bring good results. He steadied this man’s walk so he could produce good fruit.  He received a new strength within that brought a song of praise and thanksgiving to God. This help and deliverance from God touched the lives of others that caused them to stand in awe of God and moved them to become followers of God in faith.

He prayed and would not give up and the blessing was overwhelming.  God is the same as he was in Bible days.  These things were written that we might be challenged and move as others of faith and perseverance were .  Through faith and patience they possessed the promises of God. We are challenged to do the same!
