JESUS-THE EXAMPLE (Part #1) 3-20-2016

Actually, Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Mt.11:29 KJV)  Let’s take a quick look at his life.

His quiet, learning years! (Lu.2:39-52)  This was his growing, preparation time. We see him at the temple at the age of 12 years.  Seemingly lost from his earthly parents, but he was “about his father’s business.”  He was learning, asking questions, and amazing the teachers at the temple with his knowledge. Meekness: there was already a lack of self-interest and being absorbed with God’s business.

We read that Jesus went back to Nazareth with his earthly parents, and was obedient to them.(v51)  He did not have a superior attitude toward Joseph and Mary, but co-operated and submitted his life to their authority in the home. Even though he knew of his relationship to God, he also realized God had placed him in this home, and therefore honored his parents. He was submitting to God’s will for himself at this time.

The apostle Paul encourages believers to be submissive and sincerely serve in the place God has placed them.  Acknowledge God in our lives, where we are. and let God lead us from that point. (1 Co.7: 17,20,24) We are not only submitting to man, but primarily submitting to God.  “Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault…” (Phil 2:14-15 NIV)

Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (Lu.2:52 NIV)

His first 30 years on this earth was spent in this way, the will of God. He was being prepared for a ministry that would eventually shake the world. He submitted to God!
