We used to see signs quite often, especially at sporting events: John 3:16.Some

may have even wondered what the sign message was all about. What was so different that people would raised these posters?

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  (Jn. 3:16 NIV)

It is a short verse of scripture, but carries a most important message. Let’s break it down and look at the important truths it contains. The message is for the “whole world”, not for just a few religious people.  So we should stop in what we have centered our life; what we think is so important, and give heed to the message. Consider what it says!

“Shall not perish” tells us something very important.  We are on the wrong road. It is leading us to a disastrous end. The Bible tells us clearly that all have sinned. There is none righteous, not even one. There is no one who seeks God, No one who does good, not even one. (Ro.3:9-12)   All people are alike under sin. Eventually, unless we get help, we will perish; separated from God and punished forever. Wow! This also applies personally to you and me!

“Have eternal life” tells us that there is a possibility that our pathway can be changed in such a way that we can have an eternity with God. Eternal life is to have a relationship with God; to know God and his Son, Jesus Christ. (Jn.17:3) When Christ comes the second time true believers will be changed and we will have a glorified body just like Jesus has, and live with God forever. . (1 Jn.3:1-2)  We will continue this next week!
