“Trust in the Lord will all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (or direct

your paths)” (Prov.3:5-6 NIV)  These verses may be familiar to many. Yet, they are full

of practical understanding and counsel to us all.

Trusting God and not our understanding challenges us so often. Happenings come so often that we don’t know how to handle. Situations arise we did not expect, whether it be in our personal lives, families or the world as a whole. Our understanding cannot cope with it with real confidence. What do we do?  We can worry or try to work it out ourselves. This can be very frustrating..

God challenges us to trust him and bring him into the situation.  Ps.139 tells us that “God knows us. He knows when we sit down and stand up. He is familiar with all our ways.(v1-3)  Before we speak, He knows what we are going to say. (v4)

Remember God is the one who loves us. He loved us so much that he gave us his Son to free us from our sins and give us a new life. He knows all about us; our weaknesses, our fears, even our doubts.  Yet God challenges us to trust his love and faithfulness, and as we do “He will direct our paths.”  That guidance and wisdom can come in many ways, and he has promised to do it. Don’t be afraid to open your heart to him and pray, then see how he will work; sometimes immediately or slowly. He is faithful!

Remember, through Christ, God is our leader. We are called to follow him. Jesus is called the good shepherd. Let him be that to you.  Over the last 60 years, I have found him truly faithful
