For our light affliction, which but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.  For the things that are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Co.4:17-18 NKJV)

Light afflictions- How about Watchman Nee, the christian leader in China who spent 15 years in a concentration camp; much of the time cleaning camp cesspools. yet living a life of thanksgiving to God. I have heard of many in prison for their faith and spending 3, 7, or 12 years because of their testimony as a Christian. Many places these persecutions are continuing. They are just for a moment!

Light afflictions-  Most of us have never faced what is mentioned above.  However, what of the challenges we face to compromise our Christian testimony to gain financially, or receive position or praise from men?  How about the things we don’t attain in this life, with the temptation to give up a real Christian walk because of disappointment. Even blaming God for our lack of achievement.  Remember, this life, no matter its length, is just for a moment.

To truly live out the Christian life as a follower of Jesus, is to look at this life in relationship to the life to come.  The apostle calls the reward to come; an “eternal weight of glory.”  Jesus, our leader and Lord, walked perfectly this way, “for the joy set before him he endured the cross.”(Heb.12;2-3)  This is not “pie in the sky,” but the sure promise through the scriptures. We are called to share the eternal glory of Jesus Christ!  Don’t sell your eternal inheritance for something that will last just for the moment!
