Jesus said: “You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.  But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may  that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matt.5:43-45 NIV)

“You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus…Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts…” (Gal. 4:26, 5:6 NIV)  God has given us his Spirit, his very life, that we might be and live like we are related to him.

The apostle writes to the Corinthian Christians: “Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly-mere infants in Christ...For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly?  Are you not acting like mere men?” (1Co.3:1,3 NIV)  Paul is saying to them you’re acting like baby Christians. God wants us to grow up in Christ, and become more like our heavenly father.

“If you were Abraham’s children, said Jesus, then you would do the things that Abraham did.”

“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire.” (Jn.8:39,44 NIV) Again, Jesus is acquainting people’s actions with their origins.

God has set us free from our old life and given us a new life in Christ.  God’s Spirit is in each Christian believer to help and lead us into a new way of life; an upright, honest life, and also a life of love, forgiving one another and helping those in need. Our heavenly Father wants us to become more and more like him.  He is faithful to accomplish this very thing  Let’s aim for his best!
