“You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.” (Rev.3:17-20 NIV)   This church says that they we are wealthy and do not need anything, but God says you are blind, poor and in terrible condition.  The Bible says that man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. (1 Sam.16:7)

He tells them to come to him for help.  He can open their eyes and give them the true eternal view.  Then Christ tells them something we all need to hear. “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.” (3:19) He loves them and wants them to enter and walk in the life that is real and lasting.   He says, “So be earnest and repent.”  Change your thinking; turn to me!

I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me.”  We see a challenge, an invitation and a promise.  He is speaking to individuals, Christians who have been sidetracked from the source of life and purpose.  Jesus is calling him to open his life afresh to the Lord.  As he does this, they will eat together.  It is a promise of fellowship with Christ.  He wants to make himself more real to us; Jesus will listen and share his wisdom, guidance and strength.  God communing with man; that is a promise!

As he speaks to us as individuals; “If anyone will hear my voice!”  Let’s each  consider his life.  Are outward things the center of your life?  If so, God may be speaking to you about something better; real  riches.  He wants to walk and fellowship with you, and make your life count for now and eternity
