“Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.“ (Prov.4:23)
“The LORD does not look at the things man looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (I Sam.16:7 NIV)
“Search me, O God, and know my heart...See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Ps.139:23-24 NIV)

First, we see the importance of our heart; direction for our life begins here. (Ps.119:59)
Second, humans see one another only in outward attitudes and actions, this can be very deceiving. However God sees all.  We cannot deceive him.
Third, the call for help is to God, the one who can bring truth to light, but also lead in the right
direction; a life that has everlasting value.

There are certain attitudes of the heart that God sees as very positive.  Humility is great in the sight of God.  He can teach and lead the meek, submissive person. (Ps.25:9)  A quality of heart, that God says will produce a lasting, fruitful life, is the one that is honest. (Lu.8:15)  A person who learns to trust God with their lives; is like the attitudes of humility and honesty in action.  It pleases God when we trust him.

Here are these three characteristics in motion.  “Search me and know my heart!”  Only God can help us see ourselves in the light of truth. “Show me any offensive (wrong) way.”  Humility and honesty are evident here. God not only exposes the wrong, but makes clear the right.  We can trust God to lead us in the everlasting way.  As we keep our hearts right, our lives can produce fruit (outcome) that will please God and count for eternity.
