I heard a great challenge years ago. “Men look for methods, but God looks for men(women)!”  Men, who will take the challenge God gives them, will accomplish something truly worthwhile.  While many are saying “it can’t be done,”  others are taking God at his word, as he speaks to them, and God works in and through them to fulfill that which seems impossible.  “There is nothing impossible with God and all things are possible to him who believes.” (Lu.1:37, Mk.9:23)

Men in Bible days, were like men today.  Their first reaction to God’s call to service and purpose, was to look at their abilities (lack there of) and draw back. Moses said, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?  God’s answer, “I will be with you.” (Ex.3:11-12)  Jeremiah when called to be a prophet by God, said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.” (Jer.1:6 NIV)  It is hard for us to realize the truth, but when called by God to go and serve in some way; it does not depend on our abilities, but the work will be accomplished by the strength of God.  Our part is to trust and move ahead in obedience.

After God made clear his calling and purpose to Joshua, the Lord says to him, “Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Josh.1:9 NIV)

Sometimes God uses methods, but the power to accomplish is not in the methods, but in the Almighty himself, who is leading the way.  As disciples, let us follow in faith. Whether the work is big or small in our eyes, let’s be faithful to see it accomplished. God is with us!
