The story of Martha and Mary has been heard many times over the years.  I have spoken about
this episode a number of times; one thing is needed!  But the problem is that “one thing is still needed
In the midst of the many activities of the day, Jesus shows up at Martha and Mary’s home.  They both appreciate him and realize who he is, however there are many chores to do; things to be prepared.  There are hard choices to make, but Mary chooses the one thing needed.  She had to make a choice.  It did not happen automatically.  She had to choose.  The one thing needed was not the regular routine of the day; but it was the only one that was truly needed.  She chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to what he said.
I strongly believe that this a primary activity that is sorely needed; slow down, even stop, and sit at Jesus feet and listen to him.  But there are many things to do, so we must choose to do it; often, even daily.
I believe the Lord wants to talk with us, he wants us to talk with him.  We have the Bible that, as we open and read it, God will use to talk to us.  We have the Holy Spirit that, as we daily slow down with prayer and thanksgiving, God will speak to our hearts.  He will speak of things that will comfort, encourage, and challenge us.  Our hearts and lives will come alive in fresh ways, and we will be satisfied, and also move in obedience to God’s will.
Let us choose the one thing that is needed!
