PRAISE THE LORD! (Part #2) 8-21-2011

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ..” (Eph.5:19-20 NIV)  “...give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”(1 Th.5:18 NIV)

Here we are seeing a lifestyle of praise; a way of life of thanksgiving. Our eyes have been opened by a gracious God. He has made his Son real to us, and has begun to show us something of his eternal purposes.  He is in the process of making us more and more like Christ.
God has called us out of bondage to a self-centered, evil life and is leading us into an eternal inheritance.

Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us a picture of this new way; a way of faith.  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart;” fully trust Christ with your life; put your life in his hands.  “Don’t lean to your own understanding.” We are so limited in our understanding; we see and know in part.  “In all our ways acknowledge him.” Bring God into everything, every situation, good or bad.  Recognize that he is there, so acknowledge him; realize he has directed and allowed all to develop. God is guiding!  “And he will direct your paths.”  He will give wisdom, guidance and strength.  He then will accomplish his good will in and through you.

As Paul and Silas were following and serving God, they found themselves in prison, their feet in stocks and their backs bleeding.  There is no indication they knew what would happen next. However, they knew God was in charge.  At midnight, they began to loudly sing praises to God. All of a sudden something happened; the whole jail was shaken, they were freed and the jailer and his family were converted.  Their faith was demonstrated in their praise and thanksgiving, even in a very hard situation. This had become a way of life!  That is what God desires for us all.
