PRIORITIES (Part #1) 7-20-2014

“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or What shall we wear?’  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom, and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Mt. 6:31-33 NIV)

Our physical needs are obvious to us and can easily dominate and consume our  thoughts and actions.  Jesus is clear, and makes a promise, that if we get our priorities right in life that both needs, eternal and temporary,  will be met.  Can we trust him?

Remember, the two sisters, Martha and Mary. Martha was busy about so many tasks and upset that Mary was not doing the same.  However, Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen

to his teaching.  It is so easy to be busy with all the activities of everyday life, and neglect the important, eternal pursuit of the kingdom of God.  Mary had to intentionally choose to sit down and listen.  She had to choose to stop, listen and respond to God. (Lu.10:38-42)

We can so easily spend the vast majority of our time on the temporary. Yet God’s kingdom is real and eternal.  We can know God and his ways through the scriptures.  We can lay up treasures in this eternal kingdom by Christian service.  This kingdom will one day cover the earth as the water covers the sea. (Is.11:9)  Jesus tells us “seek first his (Gods) kingdom” and he will make sure that the other things we need will be supplied for us.  You can only find that God is truly real and faithful, as you are willing to trust and act on his word. Jesus said, “seek and you shall find.”(Mt.7:7)
