PRIORITIES! (Part #2) 7-27-2014

“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother’ then come and offer your gift.” (Mt.5:23-24   )

Matters of the heart are very important to God. “Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart.”  “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.” “As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.” (1Sam.16:7, Prov.4:23,27:19)

Some of us have heard these verses many times and have agreed with them.  However, in real circumstances and relationships, they can easily be compromised.  We can rationalize; blaming others, minimizing problems or delaying the working out of difficulties with others. Almost none of us likes confrontation. Yet, there is such relief, peace and satisfaction when problems are cleared up.

This is so important to God, that he tells us not to do another good deed or drop another gift in the offering plate before you and I make a serious attempt to clear up a problem with a relative, friend or co-worker.  Sometimes through an honest dialog with a person, clarifying words or actions, will bring closure to a matter.  Other times, it is asking or granting forgiveness!  “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Ro.12:18)  Sometimes it is not possible, but we are to honestly try. God sees the heart.

Possibly, these words bring a matter to mind that needs to be dealt with.  Don’t delay. First, Clear the matter. Afterward, you can continue serving God by helping others and giving offerings with a great freedom of heart; laying up treasures in heaven.
