“But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble (honest) and good heart, who

hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.”(Lu.8:15 NIV)

I sense that the parable of the sower is the most important parable that Jesus shared.

(Lu.8:515,V15 ) He, in a very understandable and simple way, lays out clearly the way to a

fruitful life now and for eternity. The quality of the good soil (life) is first a noble or honest

heart. When he hears the word (truth) of God’s message, he is willing to honestly consider it.

He has an open heart toward truth. He hears the Word! Doesn’t brush it off! In the first few

chapters of Proverbs, the writer over and over says to listen. Stop and listen!

“...who hear the word, retain it,,,” I think the emphasis is to embrace, hold on to the message.

He has found something truly worthwhile. There is another parable that emphasizes this truth.

In Matt.13:44-45 tells of a man who finds a treasure in a field and for the joy of it (seeing its great value) , he sells all he has and buys the field. The value of the message of Christ and his kingdom is so great, that we are to retain, embrace, “go all out” to hold on to what we

have found in God’s word

“by persevering produce a crop.”There are many things that will happen to try to hinder our

perseverance; disappointments, obstacles and enticements. However, the fruit will come as

we don’t give up.Hold steady to the message of Christ and His purposes. Your trust and walk

with the Lord is guaranteed to be fruitful.  That fruit will have eternal value now and In the world that is to come.
