“So, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.” (Ro.7:4 NIV)

Real, lasting forever, fruitfulness comes through a relationship, not with rules and self-effort, but a relationship with Christ. He is the one who loved us and gave himself for us. He is the one raised from dead and is alive forevermore.

The Apostle uses the illustration of a woman locked into a marriage that could not produce good fruit. However, if her husband died, that relationship is broken and she was free to marry one with a relationship that could bear good results.(Ro.7:1-3)

All religions in the world are based on man’s ability to produce good by his own ability: except true Christianity. So all kinds of rules and ceremonies are constructed for this purpose. The Bible tells us man is not able to please God by his self-effort. (All have sinned and come short of God’s standard. Ro.3:10,23)) When we trust and receive Christ as Savior and Lord, we are freed from that futile way of living, and offered a new way: a personal relationship with this one who loved us enough to die for our sins.  We are free to trust and submit to Christ, allowing him to lead us and work his life and will in and through us.  It is a relationship of love!!  We love because he first loved us! (1Jn.4:19).

Open yourself to this new way. Get more acquainted with this one who loves you. Set up regular times of fellowship with him. Talk to him!  Read often, even daily, from the book that talks of him and includes his own words. The relationship will grow.
