“...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” (Heb.12:1-2 NIV)

One of the great keys on winning is perseverance. Don’t give up! The enemy is always working to discourage us in our walk and service to God; pointing out our weaknesses and failures. We are to fix our eyes on the one who authored our faith, and who also is the finisher of it. He is faithful to see us through, providing grace for us, so we finish strong.

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” (1Co.11:1 NIV) These were words of Paul to the Christian community.  It was Christ’s example of humility. Jesus became a servant; humbling himself even to death on the cross.  Paul humbled himself, becoming all things to all men that he might save some.(1Co.9:19) He would not ask for financial help which might taint his message. He set a good example to us all, to present ourselves to God for his service, to do his will with our life. It can be challenging, but so fruitful for eternity.  Misunderstood by some, but pleasing to God, we can finish the work he wants us to do.

In the 1924 Olympic games, Eric Liddell won the 400 meter race. He had said, “The Lord made me fast and when I run I feel his pleasure.” He later went to China as a missionary.  Let us run the race God has for us. It will be different for each, but Christ will lead the way, and be faithful to help us finish the work he has called us to accomplish. It will glorify the Lord and win us the crown.  What a finish!!
