The Apostle makes a tremendous declaration. “Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (2 Co.5:17 NASB)  It happens if we are “in Christ.”  We may be in a church organization, regularly in a church meeting or in fellowship with “good” people, but only if we are in Christ are we a new creature and new things are happening to us.

Last week we looked at two promises that Jesus made.  He promised that those who would come to him would have a well within them that would spring up (bubble up) to eternal life; that is the life of God.  He said that those who sincerely believe in him would have streams of living water flowing from within.(Jn.4:14, 7:38)

The real christian life, indicated by Jesus himself, is something real, tangible and new.  Because Christ is alive, raised from the dead and given all power and authority from God, he brings this reality to everyone who truly trusts him.

I remember in November 1956, I came to Christ in Japan while in the air force.  After praying with a minister, asking Christ to forgive me and come into my life, I sensed no great change.  I kept going to Christian services listening to the teaching from the Bible. About two weeks later, I was sharing with two men about my prayer and decision to follow Christ.  Suddenly, I was filled with a joy that so great, I thought I would explode.  This was God’s confirmation to me that something had begun in my life.  I realized Jesus was truly the answer to man’s need.  In Christ, something new had taken place.  It is the beginning of a life that will last through all the ages to come.  Whoever chooses can come to Christ and he will be faithful to do something new in him.
