“I will awaken the dawn with praise to God.”  That is a challenge to me taped on my bathroom mirror. I see it first thing in the mornings. It is taken from Psalm 57:7-8. “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. Awake, my soul!  Awake harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.”

King David could definitely play on instruments of music. I am lacking those skills. However, a greater truth challenges us. David is saying, “I have made up my mind and I will not change. I will begin the day, awaken the dawn, with praise and thanksgiving.”  I will begin the day honoring God in this manner.  This will set the atmosphere for the day!

Why do this?  “Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture...give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Ps/ 100”3-5 NIV)  God never changes!  His love and faithfulness are sure.  Each day, no matter what the circumstances, the Lord remains the same!

“Be joyful always;  pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thess.5:16-18 NIV) We may not know God’s will in many situations, but these statements from the Bible makes his will clear about our attitude.  Actually, this sets the stage for his guidance to become clear.  We are honoring him above the difficulties of life.and it demonstrates our trust in HIm. He reigns supreme in all things. This national day of Thanksgiving is a good time to start and carry on through the whole year.
