“He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.” (Ps.50:23 NIV)

This Psalm encourages us that one practical way to honor God is to offer thanks to him. This truth is all over the Bible; “I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1)  David made up his mind. He is going to have a lifestyle of thanksgiving and praise. (Ps.57:7-8)  He is going to start the day with praise. I believe it is something that we choose to do, inspite of the challenges and difficulties of life we may not understand.  Choosing this way comes from a knowledge that God is love, faithful, and sure!  We can count on him no matter what.  He makes all things work together for our good, to accomplish his purpose of making us more like Jesus, his Son.(Ro.8:28)  It is vital that we come to grips with this wonderful truth. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus! (1Th.5:18)  This honors God!

Thanksgiving brings something else. The verse above tells us that praise and thanksgiving opens the way for God’s help.. Honoring God with praise in the midst of the troubles of life, brings not only encouragement to us, but opens the blessing and help we need from God. Sometimes we just need encouragement, but the door is swung wide open for God’s help.

Paul and Silas, at midnight with their backs bleeding and their feet in stocks, began loudly to pray and sing praises to God. It brought a supernatural deliverance and salvation to the jailer and family. (Acts 16:25-33)   This is a great thing to do continually!
