Jesus is with his disciples and they ask him; “Tell us...what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” (Mt.24:3 NIV)  He answers,”And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Mt.24:14 NIV)  The gospel (good news) of the kingdom (of God) has to be proclaimed to all.  It is the good news of that which will last forever and when that is accomplished then this age, this period of time, will end..

Do not love the world, or the things in the world...the world is passing away, and the lust of it...” (1Jn.2:15-17 NKJ)  Peter speaks of this as well, “...both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” (2Pet.3:10b)  This is what the Devil offered to Jesus, during his time of temptation, mentioned in Luke 4:5-8.  He was offering Christ the glory of a temporary world that was going to pass away.  He is still doing the same today. Jim Elliott, a christian missionary in South America, once said; “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose.”  Yet, so many are choosing to live only for the temporary, and losing the eternal.

Jesus said, “the end will come.”  It will happen; God has spoken.  However, the good news that is now being declared around the world is about a kingdom that will last forever; the kingdom of God. Jesus is declared as king, and through the sacrifice of himself on the cross, he has made a way for all to come into that eternal kingdom and live under God’s blessing forever.  This is the time to come, trust in Christ as your Lord, and live for that which lasts!
