The apostle Peter made the above statement in 1Pet.4:7-10, and the immediate question is what shall we do?  Peter shares with us in this same passage four important items to concentrate on at this time.

1. “Be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.” Another translation says, “be earnest and disciplined in your prayers” Giving great importance to a definite time of prayer daily is so important. It sets the stage for God to encourage you and lead you clearly in his will. You need his guidance and strength.

2. “Above all, love each other deeply’ because love covers over a multitude of sins.”  It is easy to play the “blame game.” Pressure can cause irritation toward others, but the challenge is to give good news; Jesus forgives.  Let’s help those who stumble or are weak, rather than criticize.

3.”Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.” Using what we have to help and encourage others and doing it without complaining. Wow! That is a challenge!  Most have houses and goods that can be used to bless others; those who are really in need. Our homes can be used to encourage others through fellowship.

4. “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others...” There are many gifts or talents given to us.  They differ, but all can be used to help others.  As we make ourselves available to God, he will show us and open opportunities to be a blessing.

True Christians have a sure promise of the world to come; a new heaven and earth.  By opening up and using what we have, we can point people to our hope in Christ and have opportunities to share in word and action the reality of Christ in our lives.  Fear is not our calling, we are to look up.  Redemption is getting near.
