“How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver.” (Prov.16:16 NIV)

This and other statements from the Bible seem so silly and even nonsense in our society.  To so many, riches (money) is the answer to everything.  If you have money, you can get anything you want.  I think all of us know that we need money to live and function, but its priority in our lives will make a difference between happiness and frustration. “The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows” (1 Tim.6:10 NIV)   It is worthwhile to slow down and honestly consider where we are in our attitude toward money. Putting God and his kingdom first in our lives will lead us to true and lasting riches.  Also, there is God’s promise to those who take this path; “He will supply all their natural needs.” (Mt.6:33)     .

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but put their hope in do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous and willing to share…In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves...for the coming age…” (1 Tim.6:17-19 NIV)

Most of us do not consider ourselves rich. “God must be talking to others!” Again, be honest and consider how you can be a blessing to others, using that which God has given you. In sincere prayer to the Lord, he can guide you to be a great blessing in this life. In so doing, you are laying up treasures in heaven. This seems a much better and safer place with great dividends.
